As part of the strategy to expand the market, to increase market share and to create a strategic position of Saigon Newport Corporation, implementing the guidelines of the Ministry of Defense, the Navy High Command and the permission of the Prime Minister, the signing ceremony of a joint venture contract with Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Terminal took place solemnly on February 4th , 2009 between Saigon Newport Corporation - the largest port operator in Vietnam along with 03 major shipping lines including Mitsui OSK Lines (Japan), Wanhai Lines (Taiwan), Hanjin Shipping Lines (Korea, currently Hanjin Transpotation Company), TCIT became the only joint venture model with foreign partners, invested itself in loading and unloading equipment and hired the infrastructure invested by domestic capital from Saigon Newport Corporation.
Continuously innovating to improve service quality, expanding capacity and meeting the container vessel upsizing trend of shipping lines, in 2019, TCIT has continued its success and achieved many remarkable results. In January 2019, TCIT has been licensed and successfully welcomed two mother vessels COSCO ITALY and COSCO SPAIN with capacity of nearly 160,000 DWT, connecting Vietnam and Canada. On February 28th, 2019, TCIT set a new loading and unloading record in Vietnam's port industry with a handling capacity of 207.36 containers / hour when handling EXPRESS BERLIN vessel of FE5 service (Vietnam - Europe connection service lane). On March 2nd, 2019, TCIT once again reached a record of unloading volume per 1 container ship when receiving the NYK SWAN vessel (with the largest handling volume per 1 container ship is 9,947 Teu, the greatest number ever, at TCIT in particular and in Vietnam Maritime Industry in general). These are very important milestones proving the capacity and position of TCIT port as well as Vietnam Maritime Industry in the world.
In 2019, TCIT has continued to invest in more modern equipment including 01 modern and largest Ship-to-Shore crane (compare to current cranes in Vietnam) with a range of 24 rows, increasing the number of Ship-to-Shore crane to 10 units; to add 02 RTG cranes, increasing the number of cranes to 22 units, to purchase 10 tractors and 02 forklifts and many other equipment. That is a big advantage for improving the ship release capacity, expanding the scale as well as ensuring the service quality, increasing the capacity to 2,000,000 TEU / year.
TCIT is proud to be the only port in Vietnam to provide and ensure the quality of service for the three largest shipping lines all over the world including: THE Alliance, OCEAN Alliance and 2M + H Alliance and many large shipping lines. in the world and in the country. Accumulated after nearly 9 years of operation - 10 years of establishment and development, TCIT has welcomed more than 3,500 mother ships, handled more than 8.7 million containers through the Port, always the Port with the most total service routes. in the region with a long-term calendar of 08-12 routes / week, including routes connecting Vietnam to North America, Europe and Inner Asia, the average growth in output is about 27% / year; Always maintaining the leading position in Cai Mep - Thi Vai area with a market share of nearly 60% and continuously being the second port having throughput in Vietnam, just behind Tan Cang - Cat Lai port of TCSG Corporation in Ho Chi Minh City.
