SCHEDULE RELIABILITY OF CONTAINER SHIPPING LINES DROPS TO RECORD LOW IN JANUARY 2022
Schedule reliability dropped again, this time by 0.9 percentage points, month-to-month to 30.9%. This is the lowest ever global schedule reliability since the Danish research and analysis company Sea-Intelligence started the measure in 2011.

According to the latest issue of Sea-Intelligence's Global Liner Performance (GLP) report, Maersk was once again the most reliable top-14 carrier in January 2022, with schedule reliability of 46.9%, followed by its subsidiary Hamburg Süd with 42.8%.
MSC and HMM had schedule reliability between 30%-40%, with six carriers recording schedule reliability of 20%-30%.
The remaining four carriers had schedule reliability of under 20%, with Evergreen recording the lowest January 2022 schedule reliability figure of 15%.
At the same time, ten carriers recorded a month-to-month improvement in schedule reliability, while five carriers recorded a year-to-year improvement in schedule reliability, with only three carriers recording double-digit Y/Y declines.

HAPAG-LLOYD SURPASSES USD 26 BILLION IN REVENUE AND USD 10 BILLION IN PROFIT IN 2021
Hapag-Lloyd has grown very strongly in 2021, with revenue increasing to uSD 26.4 billion and the group's net profit reaching USD 10.8 billion due to high freight rates.

At the same time, transport expenses rose significantly by 17.1% to US$12.2 billion. Hapag-Lloyd stated that this was particularly due to higher bunker prices and charter rates, as well as increased demurrage and storage fees.
Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, commented that 2021 was a "successful year", with massive investments in modern vessels and new containers, and a strengthened financial and asset position.
"However, transport expenses have unfortunately also risen significantly, mainly due to the bottlenecks in the global supply chains," he noted.
Looking ahead, the Hamburg-based container line expects that earnings will be strong in the first half of 2022 and that the strained situation in the global supply chains will ease by the second half of the year, "which should lead to a beginning normalisation of earnings."
EBITDA is expected to be in the range of US$12 to US$14 billion and EBIT is expected to be in the range of US$10 to US$12 billion. "This forecast, however, is uncertain due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and current developments in Ukraine," said Hapag-Lloyd.
"The 2022 financial year has gotten off to a successful start for us, but the disruptions in the supply chains have not eased materially yet," stated Jansen, adding, "We all face the terrible war in Ukraine. We stand united with the international community, have stopped our bookings to and from Russia, and call for de-escalation and peace.

ZIM LAUNCHES A NEW SERVICE CONNECTING CHINA AND VIETNAM TO US EAST COAST
ZIM shipping line announced the launch of a new service called ZIM Ecommerce Baltimore Express (ZXB), connecting China and Vietnam with the US East Coast in March.
ZIM (ZIM Integrated Shipping Services) has announced the launch of a new and fast service for e-commerce customers called ZIM Ecommerce Baltimore Express (ZXB). The ZXB service will take effect from March, connecting China and Vietnam to the US East Coast.
ZXB service will have the following route: Yantian (China) - Cai Mep (Vietnam) - Baltimore (USA) - New York (USA) - Boston (USA) - Yantian (China)
ZXB will be operated exclusively by ZIM shipping line. This service will start with a fortnightly frequency and increase to weekly over several months. The exact train schedule will be announced in the coming days.
ZIM says the ZXB service will offer customers many advantages including "fastest transit time to Baltimore; guaranteed space and equipment without rolling; late cutoff from Asia ports; dedicated out-of-gate lane to avoid queues in Baltimore; and expedited rail/air/road connections to inland destinations. All wrapped with ZIM’s unique “A2Z” customer centric customer service offering".
