MARITIME NEWS UPDATE WEEK 05/2020

Corona virus outbreak, how will Vietnam, China import-export activities be?

VCN- According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the possibility of pneumonia disease by corona virus that has had a great impact on the import and export activities between Vietnam and China has not been seen clearly.

In recent days, the pneumonia disease caused by the corona virus has been complicated in China, with the number of people infected and dying of this disease increasing rapidly.

Facing this situation, the Import-Export Department is monitoring the situation to evaluate its impact on import and export activities.

According to this department, at the moment, the possibility of this epidemic having a great impact on the import and export activities between Vietnam and China has not been seen clearly. However, there has been information demand for some agricultural products in China has slowed due to the complicated situation of the epidemic in China.

On the other hand, due to strict prevention of the epidemic, transportation and delivery of goods among Chinese provinces and cities is also very difficult.

Through a quick exchange with the Department of Industry and Trade of Lang Son and Lao Cai provinces, the Import and Export Department said the pairs of border gates in Bang Tuong town of China will extend closing time until the end of February 8 (except Huu Nghi Quan international border gate will open February on January 3) to ensure the prevention of epidemic.

If the epidemic is prolonged, traffic through the border gates between Vietnam and China will be limited and the flow of goods through the border will surely be affected.

Therefore, the Import and Export Department recommends Vietnamese enterprises, especially agribusinesses, anticipate the situation that Chinese enterprises cannot receive goods to have a solution to change method of delivery and change export orientation or focus on domestic consumption.

Enterprises need to keep abreast of the situation and discuss regularly with partners to understand changes arising in force majeure cases caused by the disease.

Provinces bordering China also need to monitor trading activities of border residents to ensure uniform management of trade through international and national border gates
