Ba Ria – Vung Tau, May 2, 2025 – Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) officially welcomed the maiden call of VTI service, operated by Interasia Lines (IAL).
The VTI (Vietnam–Thailand–India) service is established to enhance trade connectivity between Vietnam and regional partners in South and Southeast Asia, such as Thailand and India. The port rotation of this fixed-weekly service is as follows: Laem Chabang – TCIT – Port Klang – Nhava Sheva – Mundra – Port Klang – TCIT, with a deployed fleet of vessels ranging from 2,600 to 3,000 teu capacity.
The maiden call by MV INTERASIA ELEVATE was handled successfully at TCIT with a throughput of 2,782 teu.
India and Thailand are currently among Vietnam’s most significant trade partners in Asia. India plays an increasingly vital role in the global supply chain, serving as a key source of raw materials and a promising consumption market for Vietnamese exports, especially in textiles, chemicals, agricultural products, and industrial equipment. Meanwhile, Thailand is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, accounting for 24% of Vietnam’s total import-export turnover with the bloc in 2024. Bilateral trade continues to expand steadily, notably in consumer goods, electronic components, and processed agricultural products. Amidst a rapidly evolving and complex global landscape, the strengthening of traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries will foster deeper, more effective cooperation toward new strategic goals.
TCIT’s board of directors presented commemorative gifts to the captain and crew of mother vessel INTERASIA ELEVATE.
The selection of TCIT as the Vietnam port of call for the VTI service contributes to expanding direct sea freight connectivity between Vietnam and these two dynamic emerging economies. This development also marks a significant step in TCIT’s continued efforts to diversify its international service network and enhance the strategic position of the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port complex. The service not only provides more options for regional import-export businesses, but also increases supply chain resilience and operational flexibility — especially by strengthening intra-Asia connectivity. This region is rapidly emerging as a key player in global trade flows.
