Behind the number of 221,819 TEUs lies far more than an increase in cargo handled at the terminal. It reflects the synchronized movement of an entire supply chain—purchase orders secured months in advance, factories maintaining stable production schedules, services operating with seamless connectivity, and a logistics system that functions efficiently from the factory to the terminal. When every link in the supply chain works in harmony, cargo flows more efficiently, enabling record-breaking throughput at the terminal.

This milestone also mirrors the strong growth of Vietnam's import and export activities. In the first six months of 2026, the country's total import-export turnover increased by 27.1% compared to the same period last year, driving continued expansion in demand for maritime transportation and logistics services. At the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port cluster, container throughput volume reached 3.9 million TEUs, up 9.2%, while maintaining 53 direct international services connecting major markets across the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

Within this positive growth landscape, TCIT has not only accommodated increasing cargo volumes but has also strengthened the competitiveness of the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port cluster through operational efficiency, enhanced connectivity, and high-quality services, further reinforcing Vietnam's position as a strategic maritime gateway on international shipping routes.

In the port and logistics industry, throughput volume is an important indicator of operational scale and handling capacity. However, the true value of growth lies not simply in the number of containers handled, but in the benefits created for customers and the entire supply chain.

Commenting on this milestone, Mr. Truong Tan Loc, Chairman of the Members' Council of TCIT, stated: "Today, a seaport's competitive advantage is no longer defined solely by its berths, channel depth, or container throughput volume, but by its ability to build a comprehensive logistics ecosystem."

This advantage is reflected in faster cargo clearance, more reliable delivery schedules for exporters, optimized vessel deployment for shipping lines, and reduced operating time and costs for logistics partners. These are the key factors underpinning TCIT's sustainable competitiveness through the integration of the port and logistics ecosystem of Saigon Newport Corporation.

In July 2026, TCIT handled 45 mother vessels across 13 direct services connecting Vietnam with key export and import markets in the Americas, Europe, and intra-Asia. TCIT also handled 13 domestic feeders and 83 Cambodia feeders. Vessel productivity exceeded 138 moves/vessel/hour, while the average gate delivery time remained at 15 minutes/container.
