Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) welcomes the new KTX2 service operated by OOCL

Ba Ria - Vung Tau, April 25, 2025 – Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) held a welcoming ceremony for the maiden voyage of the vessel IRENES RAINBOW, operating on the KTX2 service line managed by OOCL. This service connects Vietnam with key Asian markets such as Thailand, Japan, and China.
The ceremony was attended by leaders of various authorities, including the Vung Tau Maritime Administration, Cai Mep Customs Department, Cái Mép Port Border Guard Station, representatives from Tan Cang Saigon Corporation (TCT TCSG), and its member units. Notably, the event welcomed Mr. Tiger Dai – General Director of OOCL Vietnam, the captain and crew of the IRENES RAINBOW, as well as media representatives from Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

The KTX2 service operated by OOCL will call weekly at TCIT, linking Vietnamese cargo with Asian markets via the route: TCIT – Shekou – Tokyo – Yokohama – Nagoya – Kobe – Quanzhou – Ho Chi Minh – Laem Chabang – TCIT. The IRENES RAINBOW has a capacity of 37,000 tons, a length of 186 meters, and can carry 2,800 TEU. It belongs to a fleet of four mother ships, each with an average capacity of 2,500 to 3,000 TEU.

During the ceremony, Mr. Kim JongEup, General Director of TCIT, said: “In the early months of 2025, we have witnessed major comprehensive changes that are reshaping the global maritime map. We believe OOCL’s decision to launch this new service at TCIT contributes significantly to realizing the visions and goals of both the shipping company and TCIT in this new context.”

With the capacity to handle the world’s largest vessels and international-standard operational capabilities, the Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-water container port currently receives 47 international service routes weekly, mostly connecting Vietnam directly to strategic export markets such as the U.S. and Europe.
OOCL’s addition of the KTX2 service at TCIT not only expands service options for local import-export businesses but also helps diversify maritime transport networks, improve supply chain operational flexibility, and notably enhances intra-Asia connectivity—a rapidly growing region on the global trade map.
