TAN CANG – CAI MEP INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL (TCIT) CELEBRATES THE MILESTONE OF 20 MILLION TEU THROUGHPUT VOLUME

Thursday, 06/03/2025

In celebration of the 36th anniversary of Saigon Newport Corporation (March 15, 1989 – March 15, 2025), Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) has proudly reached a remarkable historical milestone — surpassing 20 million TEU of throughput after over 14 years of operation, marked by the successful berth of the ONE FRUITION mother vessel on the MS2 service connecting Vietnam and the United States.

Since receiving its first mother vessel, MOL PRECISION, on January 15, 2011, TCIT has continuously grown, guided by the sound strategies of its Executive Board and international shareholders, with strong support from Saigon Newport Corporation’s system, and the trust and companionship of customers and shipping lines. TCIT has emerged as one of Vietnam’s premier deep-sea terminals, holding the No.1 market share in the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port cluster. To date, TCIT has welcomed nearly 5,500 mother vessels and currently offers 8–12 weekly international services connecting Vietnam with major markets including the U.S., Europe, and Intra-Asia. TCIT is now the second largest container terminal in Vietnam by throughput, after Tan Cang – Cat Lai Port. Its annual throughput has grown steadily and has now surpassed 20 million TEU after 14 years of operations (excluding barge volume of approximately 14 million TEU).

TCIT’s Role in the Global Supply Chain
With its high cargo handling capacity, impressive vessel productivity (averaging 160 containers/hour/vessel and a record of 238 containers/hour/vessel), and extensive domestic and global connectivity, TCIT plays a critical role in helping carriers and shippers save time and reduce logistics costs. Amidst growing challenges to the global supply chain due to political, economic, and trade uncertainties, TCIT remains proud to contribute to maintaining the stability and flow of goods worldwide.

Contribution to Local Economic Development
As Phu My — once a rural farming district — transforms into Phu My City, the first seaport city in southern Vietnam, TCIT proudly celebrates its contribution to this transformation. Over the past 30 years, Phu My has evolved into a dynamic economic and logistics hub with one of the highest growth rates in Vietnam. TCIT’s journey of growth, forged through challenges and resilience, has been closely tied to Phu My’s development. This journey, built on determination, perseverance, and vision, has significantly contributed to the socio-economic advancement of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province and the Southeast region, enhancing Vietnam’s position on the global maritime economic map.

More Than Just a Number
The 20-million-TEU milestone is not merely a number — it is a testament to TCIT’s effective business strategies, the dedication of its leadership and staff, and the unwavering support from customers, partners, and government authorities. In this moment of celebration, TCIT extends its sincere gratitude and reaffirms its commitment to delivering superior value to our shipping lines, partners, and customers who have stood by us throughout our 15-year journey of development and transformation.
