TAN CANG – CAI MEP INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL EXCEEDS THE 2,000,000TH TEU MILESTONE FOR THE THIRD TIME, EXPECTED TO REACH 2.2 MILLION TEUS IN 2025
Monday, 24/11/2025
On the morning of November 24, 2025, Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT), a member unit of Saigon Newport Corporation, officially recorded its 2,000,000th TEU handled in 2025, when container number FFAU6456618 carrying electronic components was loaded onto the vessel ONE GRUS on the EC3 service connecting Vietnam and the United States, operated by the Premier Alliance.
This milestone was achieved 22 days earlier than in 2020 and one month earlier than in 2021, despite the continued volatility of the global maritime and economic landscape.
TCIT currently operates 12 international services linking major ports in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America, and can handle mother vessels up to 173,724 DWT, along with Cambodian transshipment cargo and domestic connections via barges and trucks. The terminal expects to reach 2.2 million TEUs in 2025, maintaining its position as Vietnam’s largest deep-water container terminal and the country’s second-largest container terminal after Cat Lai.
Lieutenant Colonel Truong Tan Loc, Chairman of the Members’ Council of TCIT, delivered a speech at the ceremony.
In addition to maintaining handling capacity and operational organization, the terminal has cooperated with shipping lines to expand hinterland connectivity with ICDs and destination ports, establish linked yards to reduce yard pressure and shorten cargo clearance time, while also promoting direct delivery through incentive policies and optimized transport routes, helping import–export enterprises maintain supply chain flexibility. As part of Saigon Newport’s integrated logistics ecosystem, TCIT leverages nationwide multimodal transport, pilotage, warehousing, and value-added services. Digital platforms, such as ePort, eDO, eBooking, and the TOPX/TOPOVN operating systems, enable customers to complete procedures online 24/7, thereby reducing waiting time, logistics costs, and emissions.
Looking ahead to 2026—when HCMC and surrounding regions are oriented toward becoming a mega-urban area with major investments in transport and logistics infrastructure—TCIT aims to strengthen its position as Vietnam’s leading deep-water container terminal, expand connectivity with ports, ICDs, and industrial zones, and accelerate digitalization and green transformation to further support the nation’s trade flows.
TCIT warmly welcomes the 2,000,000th TEU annual throughput handled at TCIT.
TCIT celebrates the 2,000,000th TEU annual throughput handled in 2025.
This is the third time TCIT has exceeded 2 million TEUs in a year. In 2025—when global supply chains are being restructured, tariffs fluctuate, operating costs rise, and sustainability requirements tighten—reaching this milestone earlier than in previous years demonstrates the terminal’s strong adaptability and operational efficiency, as well as positive momentum for Vietnam’s import–export sector.TCIT currently operates 12 international services linking major ports in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America, and can handle mother vessels up to 173,724 DWT, along with Cambodian transshipment cargo and domestic connections via barges and trucks.
